Recap

Burnley ensured they finished above fellow strugglers Wolverhampton Wanderers as they came from behind to draw 1-1 at Turf Moor on the Premier League’s final day.

The visitors made the better start and were awarded a penalty after a VAR review as Florentino handled the ball inside the area, with Adam Armstrong scoring from the spot.

They had further chances to add to their advantage in the first half, but they were made to rue those missed opportunities as Zian Flemming equalised straight after the break.

Burnley were the likelier to win the game, with Florentino striking the post and Lucas Pires denied in the second half.

Burnley end the season in 19th place on 22 points, one place above Wolves, who finish bottom of the table for the third time in Premier League history.

How the match unfolded

The referee awarded a penalty to Wolves after a VAR review just four minutes into the match, as Ladislav Krejci’s header struck the arm of Florentino, with Armstrong making no mistake from the spot.

A brilliant run from Mateus Mane saw him roam towards the penalty area, with the youngster whipping an effort at goal which Burnley goalkeeper Max Weiss tipped onto the post.

The chances continued for the away side as Weiss made a brilliant save to deny Santiago Bueno from close range, with Burnley creating their first opportunity of note on the stroke of half-time as Jose Sa kept out an effort from distance by Florentino.

Burnley equalised one minute after the restart as Flemming was teed up on the edge of the area by Loum Tchaouna and he crisply placed a shot into the corner.

The home side went close to completing the turnaround as Florentino struck the post with a cross, while Sa made saves to deny Hannibal Mejbri, Pires and Ashley Barnes.
