Recap

Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw by AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium, meaning Arsenal clinched the Premier League title with a game to spare.

City knew anything but a victory would make Arsenal champions.

Three days on from lifting the FA Cup, City were second-best for long periods and fell behind to a lovely strike from Junior Kroupi late in the first half.

Bournemouth passed up multiple chances for a second goal, and Erling Haaland set up a dramatic finish by firing home via a post in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time.

But City could not find a winner and while Arsenal can celebrate their first title in 22 years, Bournemouth are now sure of European qualification.

How the match unfolded

In a high-octane start, Jeremy Doku drew a good save from Djordje Petrovic, before the offside flag thwarted ex-Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo, who had latched on to Haaland’s through-ball before finishing confidently.

At the other end, Evanilson somehow turned Marcus Tavernier’s centre over a completely gaping goal – albeit amid a suspicion of offside – though the Brazilian was then on hand to block Haaland’s drive after a scramble in the Bournemouth area.

And it was Bournemouth who went ahead six minutes before half-time, with Kroupi taking in a cutback from Adrien Truffert before curling a wonderful effort into the top-right corner.

Nico O’Reilly failed to beat Petrovic after a driving run from Haaland early in the second half, then Bournemouth missed a trio of chances to make it 2-0 – Evanilson worked Gianluigi Donnarumma and teed up Kroupi for a wayward effort, while Rayan struck the outside of a post.

Substitute David Brooks also hit the upright, as did Rodri for City, with Haaland lashing against the woodwork and in from the rebound of that latter chance.

But there was no time for a dramatic City winner, and the celebrations can now begin at Arsenal.
